About BOXCAR Container Homes
BOXCAR Container Homes was first imagined by designer Rainbow Faith Wieland in 1992, when she was just a young girl in Texas sketching creative living spaces inside shipping containers. Decades later, her vision became reality with the official launch of BOXCAR in 2016 in Tucson, Arizona — making it one of the earliest U.S. businesses to design and build modern, livable container homes as a form of modular housing.
With over 25 years of experience in sustainable architecture, historical restoration, and interior design, Rainbow has brought BOXCAR to life as more than just a housing solution — it’s a movement toward sustainable living, affordability, and style. Each project is a fusion of industrial durability and high-end design, customized to fit the unique personality and lifestyle of every client.
Through her nonprofit Grace Through Faith, Rainbow also uses BOXCAR projects to give back — helping survivors of trauma and domestic violence gain access to safe housing and legal support.
